Welcome to Dr. Polina Dadatskaya Medical Practice

Eye Exams:

It always better to consult with the professional. Book an appointment to check the eye vision, update the eyeglass or contact lens prescriptions, and assess the overall health of your eyes.

Conjunctivitis:

  • Symptoms: Redness, itchiness, tearing, and discharge from the eyes.
  • What to do: Practice good hygiene, wash your hands frequently, avoid touching your eyes, and use artificial tears or prescribed eye drops. Consult a healthcare professional for diagnosis and treatment.
  • What not to do: Avoid sharing personal items like towels or makeup, and refrain from wearing contact lenses until the infection clears.

Dry Eye Syndrome:

  • Symptoms: Gritty or burning sensation, excessive tearing, and sensitivity to light.
  • What to do: Use artificial tears or lubricating eye drops, maintain good humidity in your environment, take breaks during extended screen time, and stay hydrated.
  • What not to do: Avoid using redness-reducing eye drops, as they can exacerbate the issue. Consult an eye specialist for chronic cases.

Cataracts:

  • Symptoms: Blurry or cloudy vision, glare, poor night vision, and faded colors.
  • What to do: Consult an ophthalmologist for a diagnosis and surgical intervention if necessary. Cataract surgery is a common and effective treatment.
  • What not to do: Delay seeking professional help, as cataracts can worsen over time.

Glaucoma:

  • Symptoms: Often, there are no early symptoms. In advanced stages, it can lead to tunnel vision because of increased pressure within.
  • What to do: Regular eye exams are crucial for early detection. If diagnosed with glaucoma, follow the treatment plan prescribed by an ophthalmologist, typically involving eye drops or surgery.
  • What not to do: Neglect regular eye check-ups, as early detection and treatment are essential in managing this condition.

Eye Allergies:

  • Symptoms: Itchy, red, and watery eyes, often accompanied by sneezing and a runny nose.
  • What to do: Identify and avoid allergens, use over-the-counter or prescribed antihistamine eye drops, and maintain good hygiene.
  • What not to do: Rub your eyes, as this can worsen symptoms and potentially lead to complications.

Retinal Detachment:

  • Symptoms: Sudden onset of floaters, flashes of light, a curtain-like shadow or veil over part of your visual field, or blurred vision.
  • What to do: Seek immediate medical attention if you experience any of these symptoms, as retinal detachment is a medical emergency. Surgical intervention is typically required to reattach the retina.
  • What not to do: Delay seeking medical help, as untreated retinal detachment can lead to permanent vision loss.

Stye / Hordeolum:

  • Symptoms: Painful, red bump on the eyelid, often with a yellowish pustule at its center.
  • What to do: Apply a warm compress to the affected area for about 10-15 minutes, several times a day. Do not squeeze or pop the stye. If it doesn't improve or worsens, consult a healthcare professional.
  • What not to do: Avoid squeezing or trying to "pop" the stye, as this can lead to infection or make the condition worse.

Sand in the Eyes:

  • Symptoms: The sensation of having sand, grit, or a foreign object in the eyes, leading to discomfort, redness, and excessive tearing.
  • What to do: Rinse the eyes with clean, lukewarm water or use artificial tears to flush out any foreign particles. Blink several times to help the eyes naturally clear debris. If the irritation persists, consult an eye specialist.
  • What not to do: Avoid rubbing your eyes, as this can worsen the discomfort and potentially scratch the cornea.

Tired Eyes:

  • Symptoms: Eye fatigue, heaviness, blurred vision, and difficulty focusing, often caused by extended screen time or reading.
  • What to do: Take regular breaks during screen time or close-up work. The 20-20-20 rule is helpful—every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds. Ensure proper lighting and consider computer glasses if necessary.
  • What not to do: Avoid excessive screen time without breaks, as it can lead to worsening eye strain. Over-the-counter eye drops may provide temporary relief, but overuse is not recommended without a doctor's advice.

Dry Eye:

  • Symptoms: Dryness, burning, a gritty feeling, and sometimes excessive tearing due to inadequate tear production or poor tear quality.
  • What to do: Use preservative-free artificial tears or lubricating eye drops to relieve dryness. Maintain good indoor humidity, stay hydrated, and consider Omega-3 supplements to support eye health.
  • What not to do: Avoid prolonged exposure to dry or windy conditions. Overusing redness-reducing eye drops can exacerbate dry eye symptoms. Consult an eye specialist for chronic or severe cases of dry eye.
